As we all know, it's the bartender that really makes the difference when you order a drink. No two bartenders pour the same drink, they have their own personal style and we wouldn't ask for their secrets. Here at Tip Your Bartender we try to give you an accurate recipe for the drinks we sample but recipe’s do vary from bar and bartender.

We entered the bar with our drink list in hand, ready for anything. We asked the bartender, Tara, if we could share a Dirty Girl Scout. She made a us a double and gave us two straws. We felt like couple of idiots. Who orders a drink to share? (We told her we were experimenting with new drinks for our website.) The Dirty Girlscout tasted like Thin Mint ice cream. It’s a sweet and refreshing dessert cocktail. It didn’t taste like it had any alcohol in it, just smooth like a watered down milk shake. We decided to take another look at our list and ordered a couple of Red Headed Sluts, or fruit punch shooters. They were smooth and cold but lacked a kick. We decided that these drinks were just a little too sweet and would only leave us a terrible headache in the morning. We abandoned the drink list and ordered a couple of beers.

It all started back in high school, Friday night parties, hanging at the beach, girls and drinking. Yeah that's’ right drinking. Rob and I have been drinking partners for over 20 years. A few years ago Rob came up with the idea “Tip Your Bartender.” He made some shirts and stickers and left it at that.

One day while hanging out drinking we decided to join forces and take TYB to a new level. We came up with the website and some good ideas to support our local bartenders and to those in the business. The ones who continue to service our drinks and deal with all the bullshit and all the drama.

Our first mission was to find some new drinks, go to a bar, check them out and do a review. It sounded good. So our first stop was the Hindquarter. We stroll in all cool and stoked like we’re “The Shit.” As we sit down and get ready to order our drinks, the o-so-sweet bartender-et,“Tara” came to see what we wanted. As we order our first drink, “The Dirty Girlscout,” not knowing what we were getting into, we ordered only one. Tara could have just ripped into us, instead, being kind and sincere, she asked if we wanted “two straws?” Rob looked at me like, “Oh Shit.” After we laughed out loud. We continued to talk to Tara and told her what we were doing. She was instantly stoked and wanted to know more.

I don’t like Dirty Girlscout's. It’s too sweet of a drink. It’s kind-of-like drinking melted mint ice cream with alcohol in it. This is not my style, however if you’re out on a date and you just had dinner, this could be the dessert. Forget the cake, keep drinking.

Our next drink was a shot. The Red Headed Slut. A dessert shot that’s very sweet. I pounded it and got over it quick.

After experiencing these two drinks we both decided it was time for a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. After a few pints and a good conversation with Tara, our mission was complete and all good. After all, we were buzzed by this time, and Tara was still stoked on us.
